Community Council

Meelin Community Council has now been in operation  since 2004 and under its chairman the late Gus Brosnan it set about cleaning the village,painting ,cutting the hedges and generally making the village a far nicer place to live and shop.Its members and as many volunteers as possible gather the first Tuesday of every month from March on for the big clean up.Meelin Community Council entered the village in the tidy towns and villages competition and over the years the ratings are improving significantly.In 2014 a new committee were set up and officers are as follows.Chairman Willie O Sullivan ,Joint Secretaries,Deirdre Sheehan and Nell Kelly ,Vice Chairman Denis Sheehan ,Joint Treasurers are Mary Browne and Bridget Kelly with Denis Lehane acting as pro.Pictured above are members of Meelin Community Council.

Anti Litter County Champions 2016

Bonfires blazed and the green and gold of Meelin was everyplace to be seen as the Community Council members returned to Meelin after taking first place in the County anti Litter campaign for 2016.Full of pride Chairman Willie O Sullivan said that after enduring the heart break of being runners up last year they were determined to go one better this year and he thanked his fellow officers , the teachers and children of the primary school and everybody who worked so hard as they strove for success and he pointed out that there was a great community spirit in Meelin.As 250 people sat down for

The AGM of Meelin Community Council was held on Monday night 29th August 2016 in the hall in Meelin.In his address to the meeting chairman Willie O Sullivan welcomed everyone and thanked them for their work and support throughout the year.He told the meeting that the village was in the County Final of the Anti Litter Campaign for the second year running and after being runners up last year he was optimistic Meelin could go one better and win it this year.He also thanked C E ( community employment ) worker Robert Duaine for the Trojan work he did around the village and also was loud in his p

Disappointment all around Meelin after they were pipped at the post yet again by Ladysbridge .This time it was the County Final of the anti litter challenge.Willie O Sullivan chairman of the community council said they went to County Hall in Cork with very high hopes of being the Anti Litter County champions but came up short by a couple of points.This said Willie was hard to take as Fr O Neills the hurlers from Ladiesbridge also beat Meelin hurlers by a point but gracious as ever in defeat he congratulated Ladysbridge on their victory and thanked his fellow officers in the community counc

Meelin earned first place in the semi final of theNorth Cork division of the  anti litter challenge .We had outstanding scores in each round and we are now in the county final.This runs from July 20 -24 and the community council are urging everyone to make a big effort and to keep our village "sparkling ".

Meelin has qualified for the semi final of the anti litter campaign.Meelin are leading overall by 1.9 %.It is a very tight race, Coolagown, Kildorrery, Lyre,Glantane and Castletownroche have also qualified.We are making a special request to pet owners to be vigilant about picking up after their pets for the period of the semi final June 29th -July 7th and again hopefully for the final July 20th -24th .The Meelin Community Council would like to thank everyone for their efforts.

Well known Meelin Stonemason Denis Lehane finishing off another flower bed in Meelin village.This is the work of Meelin,s very active Community Council , under the chairmanship of Willie O Sullivan, in their quest for honours in the tidy town competition.The work is ongoing with members meeting every morning to clean the village  and with Meelin achieving full marks in the first inspection the drive is now on to repeat that.The community council are full of praise for Ray Brosnan who is doing trojan work around the village and he has it in great condition
